France drops the mask mandate and it lifts all of its Covid-19 restrictions for US travelers

France has recently announced that they are easing their current border restrictions for US tourists. Not only that, but they are also removing the vaccine-related mandates as well. They are signaling that the US is a green country, so they are bringing in much easier entrance protocols.

If you are a fully vaccinated traveler that comes from a green country, you can just enter via showing your inoculation proof. With that being said, if you didn’t take the vaccine yet, you can show a negative PCR test taken up to 72 hours before you left the country. Or you can share a negative antigen test taken within the past 2 days. You can also show that you had Covid-19 within the last 6 months. Also, kids under 12 years old don’t need any paperwork or proof.

The French government is stating that the green list has only countries with little to no virus circulation, so there’s no variant to be concerned about at this time. These new rules arrive because France has just removed the need for pre-departure testing for anyone that has a vaccine. However, until this was announced, if you weren’t vaccinated, you still needed to have a good reason for the trip.

France is also suspending their vaccination pass, while also removing the mask rules, according to a tweet by Jean Castex, the prime minister. Again, until this time you needed to have a pass in order to go on a long train ride, to enter a café or a restaurant. From now on, face coverings will only be mandatory in public transport, other than that these are not mandatory anymore.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, France is now seen as a Level 4 destination. It warns Americans to prevent any travels there. Right now, France has over 65200 infections per day, which is way lower than the peak which happened in January.

France decided to make it easier for tourists to visit the country, hence the reason why this mandate has appeared. It’s not the only country doing this though. Iceland and Ireland removed all their Covid related restrictions, thus allowing everyone to visit their country at this time!
